Libro libre's Wiilliamsburg Bedford Ave site got a rapid, pretty powerful response. We got cleaned out of our books within an hour. Books like Toni Morrison's Sula and Nine Stories by JD Salinger got swept up immediately. Also there was alot of discussion between people concerning the trust/free lending and social intervention nature of the Libro Libre project.
I think it was a great idea to attempt to shift some of the discourse surrounding private ownership and group sharing through our experiment with books. The final success or challenge of the Libro Libre project will be determined as books are returned and shared again or simply kept privately. Tracking through book borrower's sharing blog posts and through our book label sign-in will allow us to better understand the project and consider ways to improve the intervention.
Free books, free to share, in a more free society!

Hey libro Libre-ers,
ReplyDeleteGreat Idea! Can't wait to have winter break and get my free read on.
I like the action you are taking on free society and free market.
Keep up the good work.
ps -it would be awesome to have a libro libre site where students can exchange free books for classes and save $$$
